Gas industry of UAE
Summary
ADNOC is leading gas company in the country. Other UAE companies with considerable gas assets are Abu-Dhabi’s state fund Mubadala, state-owned TAQA, Ras Al Khaimah emirate’s RAK Gas and private company Dana.
As of now UAE has the only LNG plant - Das Island with annual capacity 7.6 MTPA. The second LNG plant - Al Ruwais is under construction. It will have 9.6 mtpa of production capacity and is scheduled to start operations in 2028.
Some of LNG is consumed locally in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Emirate of Abu Dhabi keeps has accelerated M&A in the global gas market since early 2025. Main agents of abroad presence are ADNOC, Mubadala Investment Fund and TAQA.

LNG Loadings
The table “Monthly LNG loadings volumes “ provides statistics on the loading of gas carriers at Ras Lafan, the only LNG loading port in UAE. The data is available from October 2022. 01.MM.YYYY means shipments for the entire calendar month starting on that day. Shipments for the current month are indicated by cumulative total from the first day of the month to the current date. The delay in receiving data is up to one day. The data is updated automatically.
The table “Details of LNG loadings in UAE during last 30 days“ provides the data on loading of gas carriers at gas-liquefying plant during last 30 days and is updated automatically.
Export destinations
The table “Destination countries of UAE LNG Export" provides statistics on importing countries of UAE LNG with aggregation by calendar months. The date of gas carrier loading is used, the data on importing country is available upon discharge. The data has been provided since 01.09.2022 and is updated automatically. Data for the current month is shown as a cumulative total.
India consumes more than half of UAE LNG export. This choice is logical: UAE is located very closely to Indian market and its vessels do not need have to cross problematic channels (Suez, Panama).
Another key importers of UAE LNG are Japan, China, Taiwan South Korea.

UAE has two operational regas terminals:
Dubai Jebel Ali 6.0 MTPA
Abu Dhabi FSRU 3.8 MTPA
Pipeline gas import and transit
Qatar - UAE - Oman
Qatar-based Dolphin Energy produces gas at North Field, processes at the Gas Processing Plant in Ras Laffan Industrial City, and then transports the gas by offshore pipeline to Gas Receiving Facilities at Taweelah in Abu Dhabi, UAE and further to Oman. The facility has started gas supply in July 2007. Capacity is significant 57 mcm per day.
Abu Dhabi state fund Mubadala owns 51% share of the company. The other 49% owned by French TotalEnergies and US Oxy.
Bunkering
UAE develops LNG bunkering operations. As of May 2025 there is one LNG bunkering vessel Green Zeebrugge wirjh 2250 MT cargo holds.
UAE Fujairah bunkering hub is top 5 bunkering hub in the world.
Abroad assets
Emirate of Abu Dhabi and other state and private companies keeps increasing its presence in the global LNG market through M&A. Main agents of abroad presence are ADNOC, Mubadala Investment Fund and TAQA.
Key abroad assets in gas industry:
ADNOC has 10% shares in operational 3.4 MTPA Coral South FLNG, under construction 3.4 MTPA Coral North FLNG and planned 18 MTPA Rovuma onshore LNG plantin Mozambique.
ADNOC owns 11.7% shares in Phase 1 of Rio Grande LNG project. Key shareholder is US NextDecade.
ADNOC has share of 24.1% of Kimmeridge’s South Texas Holding Company, which produces gas in Texas and is developing a project to build the Commonwealth 9.5 MTPA LNG plant in Louisiana with expected launch in 2029. The shares purchased in Q2 2025.
ADNOC has 40% share of Talimarjan gas thermal power plant in Uzbekistan. The shares purchased in Q2 2025.
ADNOC through XRG has 38% share of Turkmeni offshore Block I gas field.
In November 2025 ADNOC through XRG signed a non-binding agreement to acquire a stake in Azerbaijan's Southern Gas Corridor. This investments support XRG's regional strategy in the Caspian Sea and will facilitate gas supplies from Azerbaijan to the European market. The Southern Gas Corridor was founded in February 2014, and the Ministry of Economy of Azerbaijan and SOCAR participate in it.
Mubadala owns 51% share in Qatar-based Dolphin Energy. This project produces gas at North Field, processes it at the Gas Processing Plant in Ras Laffan Industrial City, and then transports the gas by offshore pipeline to Gas Receiving Facilities at Taweelah in Abu Dhabi, UAE and further to Oman.The other 49% owned by French TotalEnergies and US Oxy. Mubadala owns 55% share in Pegaga gas field in Malaysia since 2022. Production capacity is 14 mcm per day plus condensate.
Mubadala owns Ruby gas field in Indonesia.
Mubadala owns Erawan gas field in Thailand.
Mubadala owns 10% shares of the largest Egyptian gas field Zohr and 100% in Atoll gas field.
Mubadala owns 11% shares of the largest Israeli gas field Tamar.
TAQA owns majority shares of 4.1 bcm Bergermeer UGS and 100% of Piek Gas Installatie UGS in Alkmar, Netherlands.
TAQA owns through TAQA North gas upstream assets Canada, including via purchase of Pioneer Canada.
TAQA ownes several offshore gas upstream assets in North Field in the Great Britain and Netherlands sectors.
In 2025 ADNOC through XRG tried to purchase Australian gas company Santos, but eventually withdrew its offer.
Thus Abu Dhabi emirate actively reinvest profits earned in international oil and gas markets in the same markets.
